FAQs

  • Wyoming ROOTS is a program that plans brings medication treatment for opioid and other substance use disorders directly within emergency departments as well as integrates peer navigators to partner with patients in finding their recovery.

  • We support patients in starting their recovery journey within emergency departments, with treatments available for alcohol, opioid, methamphetamine, nicotine, and other substance use disorders, including:

    • Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT)

    • Peer support and recovery coaching

    • Withdrawal management

    • Referral to harm reduction and recovery services

The Wyoming ROOTS clinical team provides clinician education and protocols to hospitals, as well as warm line services connecting emergency department clinicians to addiction specialists.

  • Quitting drugs or alcohol can cause uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms, but you don’t have to go through it alone. You can get medicine to help with these symptoms, so you feel better while your body adjusts to the changes. These medications are usually given at a hospital or doctor's office, over 3-5 days, but sometimes they can be prescribed through an online appointment from home.

  • ROOTS peer navigators can help connect people to residential treatment or rehab programs, which provide live-in, long-term support focusing on recovery through therapy, skill-building, and relapse prevention. This differs from Withdrawal Management, which is a short-term service focused on safely managing withdrawal symptoms during detoxification and often serves as a precursor to further treatment. Some residential programs do offer withdrawal management services upon admission. ROOTS helps individuals access both types of care by identifying their needs and ensuring seamless connections to appropriate services in their communities.

  • Our services are available to anyone struggling with substance use who visit one of our Wyoming ROOTS affiliated emergency departments regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. Our partners are committed to helping people in our rural communities access the care they need.

  • You can start by visiting one of our affiliated emergency departments. Your provider will discuss options, offer medication treatment and connect you to a peer navigator to help you get started in your recovery journey.

These medications help reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms, making it easier for individuals to be successful in achieving long-term recovery. Wyoming ROOTS emergency departments are proud to offer treatment initiation, peer navigators and referral options to providers who prescribe MAT.
